About Angela
Angela Wolak is a multidisciplinary artist based in Washington, DC. She works primarily in ceramics, with a practice that also extends into painting and printmaking. Her work is rooted in an intuitive, exploratory process—one that values fluidity over structure and allows each medium to influence the next. Whether she is shaping clay or building up layers of pigment, she is guided by instinct and the organic rhythms that emerge along the way.
Throughout her life, she has always loved clay for its ability to be endlessly reworked and refined until it is fired into its final state. She joined Ampersand Art Space in 2025, where she continues to develop her technical range and deepen her engagement with the medium.
Across forms and disciplines, her work often incorporates abstract, biomorphic shapes that hint at cycles of growth and movement. She is drawn to all manner of fluid, repetitive forms found in nature. Fungi, flowers, coral, and pollen grains serve as recurring points of inspiration.
And when that all starts to feel a bit too serious, she makes little containers that wear silly hats.
